E-course to prevent hearing loss at workplace

By IANS,

Toronto : A Canadian institute has developed a unique e-course to prevent hearing loss at workplace.

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS), which is based at Hamilton near here, is offering the e-course to help reduce or eliminate noise exposure in the workplace and thus prevent hearing loss.

In a statement, the centre says its one-hour e-course – Preventing Hearing Loss from Workplace Noise – teaches how noise can damage hearing, what noise levels are hazardous, how to develop hearing loss prevention measures, which hearing protectors are appropriate for which settings and how to use them, as well as specific ways to control workplace noise exposure.

The course also features case studies, quizzes, an `ask a question’ option and a final examination.

The centre says the e-course is geared towards people working in a potentially noisy setting – workers, managers, supervisors, health and safety staff and committee members, as well as human resources and disability management personnel.

The centre is Canada’s national resource for advancing workplace health and safety.

It promotes the total well-being – physical, psychosocial and mental health – of working Canadians by providing information, training, education, management systems and solutions that support health and safety programs and the prevention of injury and illness.

The centre also collaborates with agencies and organizations from around the world to improve well-being at workplace.
