Jammu, May 27 (NAK): Condemning the ‘brutal killings’ of Gujjars in police firing during an agitation in Rajasthan, the Gujjar leaders of Jammu region have decided to launch `Rail Roko Andholan’ on Jammu Delhi railway track from Wednesday.
The Gujjar leaders further threatened to stop milk, mutton, vegetables and other commodities in Jammu as a mark of protest from tomorrow.
“We will start agitation in the state to support the cause of granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to our brethren in Rajasthan,” said the Gujjar leaders while talking to media persons here this morning.
They maintained that Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir have decided to support their fellow brothers in Rajasthan for their just, reasonable and genuine cause of granting tribal status to them.
The state president of Jammu and Kashmir Gujjars United Front Mohammad Anwar Choudhary informed, “We have decided to join “Rail Roko Andholan” and J&K Gujjars are going to stop Rail traffic between Delhi-Jammu track from tomorrow, adding “we have also decided to stop milk, mutton, vegetables and other commodities supply by the Gujjars in the state to impress upon the central government to intervene in the matter of granting ST status to the Gujjars of Rajasthan.
He disclosed that the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir would also march towards Rajasthan to register their protest against Chief Minister of Rajasthan and extend their support to Rajasthan Gujjars. He squarely blamed the state government for the current situation, saying it was “solely responsible for the present killings” in the state.
Later, the leaders also staged protest outside the Press Club Jammu and raised slogans against the Rajasthan government.
