Kabul : Two suicide attacks against military targets, resulting in one people killed and another nine wounded in southern and eastern Afghanistan, reaffirmed on Wednesday the increasing violence prevailing in this Asian country.
The first attack was aimed at a police vehicle in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province. Two police officers and two civilians were wounded in the explosion, according to Police Chief Mohamad Hussein Andiwal.
A local intelligence official, who asked not to be identified, said a civilian was killed and another seven people wounded, including two police officers.
In the second suicide attack, a vehicle was rammed into a military base of US-led occupation forces in Garbaz district, in eastern Khost province.
Two Afghan troops were wounded, according to local officials.
Other media reports said a NATO soldier was killed on Wednesday in a roadside explosion in eastern Afghanistan. They quote NATO sources as saying that another four troops on patrol were wounded in the incident.
Violence has escalated in Afghanistan in the last two years, the bloodiest period since the start of the US-led invasion and occupation in 2001, according to analysts.
According to government estimates, more than 1,000 people, including civilians, soldiers and rebels, have been killed so far this year.
