Baghdad : Cleric Moqtada al Sader has called to protest an agreement granting legal status to the US military intervention in Iraq.
“We invite Iraqis to join us for a mass demonstration after Friday prayers unless the government cancels this agreement,” Sadr said.
Iraq and the US are negotiating a Status of Forces Agreement aimed at giving a legal basis to US troops after December 31, when their United Nations mandate expires, and regulating the presence of its military bases in the Arab country.
The cleric also called for Iraqi delegations to visit Arab, Islamic, and European countries to explain the inconveniences of the US military permanence in the country.
