Srinagar : Lashkar-e-Toiba, one of the militant outfits active in Jammu and Kashmir, has denied its links with Al-Qaeda and condemned the financial sanctioned by United States of America.
A caller, identifying himself as spokesman of the outfit, Dr Abdullah Gaznavi told News Agency of Kashmir that the militant group was only active in Jammu and Kashmir and there were no links of any kind with Al-Qaeda.
The spokesman claimed that LeT never targeted any civilian area and has focused its struggle only against `Indian occupation forces’ in Kashmir.
“We have on several occasions clarified that we have no role in any attack in civilian area including attack on Indian Parliament”, Dr Gaznavi told News Agency of Kashmir.
He said that LeT does not receive any financial aid from any country and “we have kept our financial collections only confined to Kashmir”.
America, he said, has been curbing the genuine voices across the globe on the name of war against terrorism. “Let the USA officials prove that there is even a single bank account of our organisation any where in the world”, he challenged adding that it was clear that “USA was working on the propaganda of Indian authorities”.
The statement came after Bush administration moved on Tuesday to implement sanctions against four alleged top figures in Lashkar-e-Tayyaba. The US Treasury described the group as a “dangerous Al Qaeda affiliate that has demonstrated its willingness to murder innocent civilians”. The sanctions mean any assets of the four found in the US will be blocked and that US citizens are forbidden from doing business with the four.
