Coalition soldier, militants killed, 20 detained in Afghan operations

Kabul : A service member of the U.S.-led Coalition forces was killed in western Afghan province of Farah while several militants were killed and 20 others were detained in two separate operations conducted in eastern and central provinces, the U.S.-led military said Friday.

A Coalition soldier was killed in Farah of the west on May 29, of whom the name and nationality was not released, according to statements issued from the Coalition base at Bagram, near the capital Kabul.

In an operation in central province of Ghazni, the force on May29 searched compounds in Andar district targeting a militant leader and killed several militants in order to quell insurgents’ threats. The Coalition said 16 militants were detained and several weapons and bomb-making materials were discovered.

Furthermore, Afghan and Coalition forces on the same day during a search operation in Narang district of eastern Kunar province detained four militants.

An around 20,000-strong U.S.-led multi-national force are deployed across Afghanistan.
