Germans almost as interested in Olympics as in Euro 2008

By DPA,

Hamburg : Germans are almost as interested in the Beijing Olympics as in the Euro 2008 football tournament, according to a survey.

The PULS institute said Thursday that 39 percent of 1,000 German polled on the two big sports events prefer the June 7-29 football event in Austria and Switzerland over the Olympics in China Aug 8-24.

But the figure of those who are more interested in the Olympics was almost as high, at 36 percent. PULS chief Konrad Wessner named it “surprising how strong the Olympic attraction is despite the Tibet crisis”.

Wessner said that the biggest interest in Euro was from males aged 18-29, while women and the older generation (50+) were more looking forward to the Olympics.
