Glenview (Illinois) : Indian golfer Arjun Atwal slipped early in the round with back to back bogeys, but then braved the elements to make up with a late birdie as he carded an even par 72 in wet and tough conditions on the second day of the Nationwide Tour’s $750,000 Bank of America Open Friday.
On a day when strong winds tested all the golfers, Atwal cut down on risks on the back nine and concentrated on keeping steady. He had birdies on fifth and 17th and bogeys on sixth and seventh as he was placed 18th after two rounds. However, more than half the field is yet to finish the second round which was stopped early due to darkness.
Atwal, currently 13th on the Nationwide Money List, is looking to another good finish to come back to the PGA Tour after a gap of two years as he plies his trade on the Nationwide, the second rung tour in the United States.
Skip Kendall also handled beautifully to shoot a brilliant 7-under 65 and surged to the lead. Kendall was bogey-free and moved to 11-under 133 and a two-stroke cushion over Kris Banks (70).
Thunderstorms hung over The Glen Club early in the day and forced a 90-minute delay to the beginning of play. There was another weather stoppage due to inclement weather and when play began for the second time, winds were blowing at 48 miles per hour and made things difficult for the players.
First-round leader Kyle Reifers, who began late in the evening, was at 9 under through four holes when play was finally called for the day. Matt Weibring (through 11 holes) is three shots back at 8 under.
