Baghdad : France’s Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner arrived in Iraq on Saturday in an unannounced visit, an official said.
Kouchner arrived in the Iraqi city of Nassriyah, 375 km southeast of Baghdad and was received in the airport by Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdul Mahdi, a Foreign Ministry official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The source said Kouchner’s two-day visit came at the invitation of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.
Kouchner, coming from the neighboring Jordan, is expected to hold talks with Iraqi leaders, including Talabani, Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari, the source added.
