Pune : Lucky loser Parth Chivate overcame a stiff resistance from Partha Shah to score a thrilling 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-3 win and storm into the second round of the Walchand Cup under-16 national series tennis tournament here.
In the other single, Shaikh Wahab was given a fright before he downed Swapnil Saraiya 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to make it to the second round. Sixth seeded Suraj Kanwar of Gujarat doused a spirited effort from qualifier Ashman Ghogari 7-6(6), 6-3.
All the other seeds had easy outings on their way to the second round.
