Lucknow : Six women from West Bengal were Monday nabbed with as many as 200 tortoises in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district, a police official said.
“Acting on a tip-off, we nabbed the women and seized several sacks full of tortoises,” district police chief Kripa Shanker Singh told IANS over telephone.
All the women were arrested from near the bus station in Mainpuri, some 200 km from Lucknow, Monday evening.
“We have contacted the forest officials,” said Singh. The women were being questuiioned, the police said.
