India invited to German bakery fair

New Delhi : Germany has invited India to participate in a bakery and confectionary trade fair — International Baking Academy (IBA-2009) — to be held Oct 3-9 next year in Dusseldorf.

This fair, started in 1949, is organised every three years alternately in Munich and Dusseldorf, with a range of bakery ingredients, machinery and furniture for bakery shops displayed under one roof.

“The bakery trade is undergoing a period of rapid change, especially due to the changing consumption behaviour of consumers. This is increasingly shifting towards eating out and is presenting food industry with new challenges,” German Bakers’ Confederation vice president Heinrich Traublinger told a press conference here Wednesday.

The IBA hopes to attract top producers of bakery products in India like Britannia and Parle.

“We want to attract leading Indian baking producers because they are the ones who need these advanced technologies and machineries to keep up with the changing face of bakery,” Traublinger said.

“Through this exhibition, we want the world to know about Indian flavours as India is known for its variety and people in the West simply go crazy about Indian food and flavours,” he added.
