Tendulkar happy to score his 40th Test century

By IANS,

Nagpur : Sachin Tendulkar after scoring his 40th Test century was happy that he could get to the milestone when the team needed.

Tendulkar’s 109 came at a time when India were struggling at 116 for three against Australia in the fourth and last Test here. And with V.V.S. Laxman (64) he added 146 runs for the fourth wicket as India piled up 311 for five at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium.

“I am so happy to score a century after a pretty long time. It feels good to have done it after a long gap and at a time when the side sorely needed it,” Tendulkar said.

The century was third for Tendulkar in the calender year. The earlier two also came against Australia in the series Down-Under earlier this year.

“I think I performed consistently well in between then and now, putting up good scores though the 100-mark eluded me several times,” he said.

Tendulkar also looked worried as India’s five wickets were down.

“If we had been three-down at stumps, it would be just fine, but losing five wickets on the first day just cannot mean we are in a comfortable situation,” he said.

He also had a word of praise for Indian debutant Murali Vijay, who replaced banned Gautam Gambhir, showing rare poise against the giants.
