Bihar police probe fraud of Rs.79 mn

By IANS,

Patna : Bihar police have begun probing a fraud case involving a Punjab National Bank (PNB) cashier, who is alleged to have fled with Rs.79 million deposited with the nationalised bank by HDFC.

A case was lodged Saturday night against cashier R.K. Narayan, who is missing since Oct 21, police sources said Monday.

“Police have been investigating the case and have interrogated some people connected with both the banks and a security agency,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Singh said.

HDFC officials said the private sector bank had deposited Rs.96 million with PNB between September and October, of which the bank had got a receipt for Rs.17 million only till date.

“The remaining amount was missing and not known to the PNB. We suspect Narayan, who has escaped with that amount,” an official of HDFC’s Exhibition Road branch here told IANS.
