New Delhi, Nov 11, IRNA,The Phoenix lander mission designed to discover if life could exit on Mars planet has ended.
“The roving laboratory was no longer sending back information to earth because it could not recharge its solar panels”, All India Radio (AIR) reported quoting NASA scientists.
The NASA scientists say they have not heard from the craft since last Sunday. They say they will continue to try to contact the craft but do not expect to hear from it.
The Phoenix which landed on the planet’s northern plains in May, ad been straggling in the increasing cold and dark of an advancing winter.
The Phoenix Mars mission was designed to search for evidence of liquid water. It spotted snow falling on the surface of the planet and also found chemical compounds formed in water.
It found no signs of the valuable liquid itself, but scientists expected more surprises from the data it had been sending back to earth.
The Phoenix Mars mission was supposed to last three months, but was nearly doubled due to success.
