Hong Kong shares open six percent lower after Wall Street losses

By DPA,

Hong Kong : Hong Kong shares opened over six percent lower Thursday as investors dumped stocks following heavy overnight losses on Wall Street.

The blue-chip Hang Seng Index fell 888.41 points, or 6.37 percent, in the first 10 minutes of trading to leave it hovering just above the 13,000 barrier at 13,050.68 points.

Analysts blamed the Hong Kong losses on deepening pessimism over the global economic prospects combined with growing fears over the prospects for Hong Kong-listed China companies.
