Raipur : The opposition Congress in Chhattisgarh Saturday brought out a long chargesheet alleging that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had “crossed all limits of corruption” and there was “complete misrule” in the state.
The first phase of polling for 39 seats in Chhattisgarh concluded Friday. Voting for the other 51 constituencies will be held Nov 20.
The chargesheet titled “BJP’s five year rule – a black chapter” mainly focuses on Chief Minister Raman Singh and his 13-member council of ministers.
The chargesheet said the state witnessed “heights of misrule, corruption and terror during the BJP tenure with the Chief Minister spearheading it”.
The Congress alleged that Raman Singh halted the state’s development through “open corruption” in all centrally-funded schemes and also helped benefit industrialists by going against the rules. Congress has also accused ministers of amassing money through corruption in key government schemes.
The Congress had lost power to the BJP in state’s maiden assembly polls held in November 2003.
The BJP has termed the chargesheet “a bundle of lies.”
“The Congress is just venting its frustration by bringing up such false and baseless charges. This time the Congress is set to suffer a humiliating defeat,” Raman Singh told reporters.
