Kabul : Afghan President Hamid Karzai Sunday called upon the Taliban’s leader Mullah Mohammad Omar to give up fighting and help in rebuilding the country.
“As an Afghan, I call on Mullah Mohammad Omar Akhund, Mullah Brother and Mullah Abdul Razaq Akhund to give up fighting, return home and play a role in reconstruction of Afghanistan,” he told newsmen at a press conference after touring Poland, New York and London.
Mullah Brother, Mulllah Abdul Razaq and Mullah Mansoor are said to be close aide to Omar.
However, the Afghan president stated that talks would be held with those Taliban militants who accept Afghanistan’s national constitution and part way with Al Qaeda terror network.
“We would talk to all those Afghans who accept the constitution and are not part of Al Qaeda and any other terrorist network,” he noted.
He also assured that he would guarantee Mullah Omar’s security if he returns home.
“if I hear from him that he is willing to come to Afghanistan or to negotiate for peace, I, as the president of Afghanistan, will go to any length providing protection.”
“Every day our people are being killed in one name or the other, they are killed in war on terror and they are killed by terrorists,” the president said.
Taliban leaders have said they could open talks only after the foreign troops withdraw from the country.
