New Delhi : The Congress Monday alleged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was “politicising” the probe into the Malegaon blast and “blatantly communalizing” the issue of terrorism.
“The BJP is guilty of politicising the investigation by the agencies as well as blatantly communalising terrorism,” Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Congress spokesperson, told reporters here.
BJP president Rajnath Singh had Sunday slammed the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government “for conducting investigations inspired by political motives”.
Singhvi queried whether Rajnath Singh would like to go through the same kind of treatment as meted out to MDMK leader Vaiko, who was put behind bars by the Tamil Nadu government on charges of sedition for giving a speech in favour of the LTTE.
“Would Rajnath Singh like to get the same treatment as was done with Vaiko by their ally and AIADMK president Jayalalitha when Vaiko was slapped with POTA on charges of sedition (in 2002),” said Singhvi.
Singhvi also questioned the nationalism of the BJP in light of Rajnath Singh supporting those accused of terrorism.
Singhvi said the party was confident of getting back to power in Chhattisgarh, where the first phase of polling was held Nov 14 and the second is on Nov 20.
“The tsunami of the Congress victory is surging ahead in Chhattisgarh on the back of an electorate fed up with the party (BJP) which used the state for its own agenda,” said Singhvi.
A serving army officer and some Hindu activists, including a seer, have been taken into custody for the Sep 29 Malegaon blast, in which six people were killed. The BJP has protested the arrests.
