Malik’s focus on India after 3-0 whitewash against West Indies

By IANS,

Karachi : Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik believes his team’s 3-0 series triumph over West Indies in Abu Dhabi has helped raise its morale ahead of the all-important home series against India, scheduled to get underway in Karachi from Jan 13.

“The victory against West Indies will give us confidence in the series against India. The way India is playing we would need to be at our best. They played very well against Australia and we need to do extra work to win against them,”said Malik after Pakistan whitewashed Chris Gayle’s men in the last of the three-match series Sunday night.

Malik is expected to be retained as Pakistan captain for the series against India that will include three Tests, five One-day Internationals and a Twenty20 International. His captaincy was under the scanner in Abu Dhabi but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is now likely to retain him after his team’s convincing victory.

Malik said he and his players will use the next eight weeks to work out a strategy to beat India.

“Dhoni is excellent as captain and is leading India very well. There is a gap of two months so we will have to sit down and chalk out some extensive plans,” he said.
