New Delhi/Kolkata : In a second accident of its kind in a week, a jet trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on a routine training mission crashed in West Bengal Monday afternoon, an IAF spokesman said, adding that both pilots were safe.
The aircraft was on a regular training sortie when it crashed in east Hashimara area at 12.36 p.m., he said. It had taken off from the Hashimara air base in Jalpaiguri district at 12.26 p.m., defence ministry spokesman (Eastern Command) Group Captain R.K. Das told IANS in Kolkata.
“A senior pilot was training a junior pilot when the accident took place. Both the pilots ejected in time and are safe. A court of inquiry has been ordered into the incident,” the spokesman said.
“There is no reported damage to the civilian property and life as of now,” the spokesman added.
The pilots were identified as Wg Cdr Sisodia and Flt Lt Kartik.
On Nov 12, a MiG-21 trainer aircraft had crashed in a cultivated field in Tinsukia district of Assam.
