Patna : A British sponsored administrative reform mission was launched here Tuesday to further improve the state governance, modernise the administration up to the world standard and make it more people friendly.
The five-year Bihar Administrative Reform Mission (BARM) was launched by Britain’s Secretary of State for International Development Douglas Alexander and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar here.
The programme will foster transparency, e-governance, better delivery of government services and accounting in government functioning.
Alexander said he was impressed during his visit to a school and a government hospital in Jehanabad district early Tuesday when he found that several “developmental and positive steps” were being taken there under various government sponsored programmes.
Official sources said Britian’s Department for International Development (DFID) will provide 18 million pounds and technical expertise to ensure implementation of administrative reforms through the programme.
Initially five departments – including Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Land and Revenue, Human Resource, Registration and Commercial Taxes – have been selected for the programme.
