Patna: Malegaon, the textile city of Maharashtra saw communal tension yesterday after the news of the brutal murder of a cattle trader Nasir Khan allegedly by the leaders of Gau Raksha Samiti (Cow Protection committee).
Mubasshir Mushtaq, a Malegaon based journalist talking to TwoCircles.net said that today situation seems to be under control and no further untoward incident has been reported.
Yesterday, without taking any risk the administration deployed police personal in the communally sensitive and mixed (Hindu- Muslim populated) areas of the textile city.
Subhash Malaw and Rajindr Dewre the activists of the cow protection committee, have been taken into custody.
As soon as the news spread out in the city the Quraishi community came out on the streets demanding the immediate arrests of the culprits. Because of the agitation shops were closed and the business activity affected.
Hundreds of the agitators demonstrated at the gate of the government hospital where the postmortem of Nasir Khan’s body took place. They refused to take the body unless the murderers are arrested.
The police promised the agitators that it will act and arrest the people involved in the murder of Mr. Khan.
As a precautionary measure it had arrested Subhash Malaw and Rajindr Dewre, the activists of the cow protection committee and they are being interrogated in this regard.
Nasir Khan the cattle trader from kamalpura was returning home along with Yaqoob Khan after taking part into cattle fair where reportedly he had entered into an altercation with the members of the cow protection committee.
When they reached a village which is 20 km from Malegaon, a black colored Jeep with armed men stopped their vehicle and attacked Nasir Khan with a sharp edged weapon. Nasir Khan died on the spot while Yaqoob Khan, his brother managed to escape from the site.
Maharashtra has seen a number of anti-Muslim violence over the past several months.
