Bhopal: The Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis presented an Award of Excellence to Dr. Afshan Naheed Hashmi, president of the Global Regulatory and Business Solutions, Maryland, USA, at a function organized by the Ladies Club of the University held at Aligarh.
According to a Press release Prof. Azis speaking on the occasion said that Afshan is the most enthusiastic and dedicated lady and she was the first person who gave an idea to hold the World Summit of AMU Alumni.
AMU Vice Chancellor said that AMU ladies, who are highly educated, are a source of strength to the society. He urged the office-bearers of Ladies Club to come forward for more social work and remove the illiteracy in the University surroundings.
Dr. Jamila Majid Siddiqui, president of the Ladies Club, said that a core group of six women established this Club along the lines of the Army Wives Welfare Club in 1972. The main purpose of the club was to offer a platform of social and cultural awareness to AMU women and other enlightened women in the city.
She said that it was resolved that AMU Ladies Club will not discuss issues pertaining to the University’s functioning, but will enhance the image of AMU through its social and cultural work.
Dr. Jamila highlighted the activities of the club and said that the club set up the Ismat Literacy Centre to provide education of the girl child from the poor households of areas neighbouring the AMU campus.
