Tigress creates panic in Uttar Pradesh village

By IANS,

Lucknow : An adult tigress has triggered panic in a village adjoining Uttar Pradesh’s Dudhwa Tiger reserve, state forest officials said Monday.

Attacking several locals in Kishanpur village of Lakhimpur district, the tigress has killed over half-a-dozen cattle in the last 24-hours.

“We have deployed over 25 forest officials to drive the tigress away into the forest,” divisional forest officer K.K. Singh told IANS by telephone.

He said two elephants have also been pressed into service for the combing operations.

Dudhwa, India’s second largest tiger reserve after the world famous Corbett National Park, recorded a tiger population of 106 as per the official census undertaken last year.
