Russian upper house approves extension of presidential term

By KUNA,

Moscow : The upper house of parliament approved Wednesday the extension of presidential term, making it six years instead of four, according to local media.

The bill was approved by a majority of 144 Federation Council members voting in favor and only one voting against.

President Dmitry Medvedev had proposed the constitutional amendment allowing the term extension earlier this month, and the bill was approved by the Duma (lower house of parliament).
