Panaji : Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Home Minister Ravi Naik Thursday differed publicly over specific intelligence inputs about the possibility of a terror strike in this state in the aftermath of the attacks in Mumbai.
“We have received certain inputs. I don’t want to share it with the media. There are some things which are secret,” Naik told reporters.
Addressing the media later, Kamat evaded queries about the inputs. “The Mumbai attack happened just last night. How can we get any inputs?” he said.
The press conference was held following a security review meeting, attended by top administrative and police officials.
Kamat said that intensive surveillance would be mounted along the Arabian sea on Goa’s western flanks, following a tip-off by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh to Kamat in a telephonic conversation.
“We have borrowed a boat from the Customs and another from the Captain of Ports department which will patrol the two main rivers Zuari and the Mandovi,” Kamat claimed.
“While the navy will periodically reconnoiter vital installations aerially, we have asked the Coast Guard to patrol the seas along Goa,” Kamat stated.
