Poland condemns Mumbai terrorist attacks

By Xinhua,

Warsaw : Poland’s President Lech Kaczynski has expressed his condolences to Indian President Pratibha Patil over the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

Kaczynski condemned the “acts of barbarity and expressed solidarity with the victims”.

“The Mumbai terrorist attacks show that the fight with terrorism is necessary,” Polish news agency PAP quoted Kaczynski as saying Thursday.

“These acts of terrorism shows that the problem exists and it can’t be easily solved. The fight with it (Terrorism) is justified, even if some mistakes have been made,” the president said.

The terrorist attacks were also condemned by Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and European Union (EU) commissioner for external relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner.

“We both are indignant at the terrorist attack in India. We are condemning what has happened there in the strongest possible words,” Sikorski told a press conference after his meeting with Ferrero-Waldner, who is currently in Poland.

There are no Polish citizens among those killed and injured in the attack, Poland’s foreign ministry spokesman Piotr Paszkowski said.

In one of the most violent terror attacks on Indian soil, Mumbai came under an unprecedented attack Wednesday, as militants used heavy machine guns and grenades to strike at the city’s most high-profile targets, killing at least 125 and injuring over 300.
