Tanvir and Akmal in Mumbai, shaken by terror strike

By IANS,

Karachi : Pakistani cricketers Sohail Tanvir and Kamran Akmal who are in Mumbai to be play in the Champions League were shaken by the terror strikes that rocked the city Wednesday night.

The two Pakistanis, who were to represent Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural Twenty20 Champions League, were dining with some friends Wednesday night when mayhem broke in the heart of Mumbai that left over a 100 people dead.

“It was unimaginable, the terror and the loss of life,” Tanvir said in an interview to a Pakistani television channel Thursday. “It was really unfortunate and I’m hoping that things will get normal here in Mumbai,” said the pacer, who was named as the best bowler of the inaugural IPL season.

Kamran Akmal said the incidents in Mumbai have proved that terrorism was a global problem and not just confined to Pakistan.

“We are here in India and express complete solidarity with the people of this country,” he said. “We are ready to play cricket even after what has happened because you cannot give in to terrorists,” Akmal said.

The Pakistan wicket-keeper said he hoped that Indian cricketers will also shrug off any security worries and travel to Pakistan to play in a much-awaited series in Jan-Feb.

India’s tour of Pakistan is in doubt in view of security concerns expressed by the Indian government.
