“I managed to get out through an underground passage with the help of the military and hotel staff even as the terrorists started shooting behind us,” EuAsiaNews quoted her as saying.

Mann said when they got to the street, she stopped a car and found it had some Indian journalists, who escorted her to safety.

“The Indian people were wonderful in their support,” said the German Eurodeputy, who is the trade spokeswoman of the European Parliament Socialist Group.

Mann was in Mumbai as part of a European Parliament trade committee delegation for talks on a new trade deal between India and the EU, according to a statement by the EP Socialist Group.

Efforts to conclude the deal would continue, and would be strengthened, Mann said.

Commenting on reports that British citizens were involved in the attack, Mann said: “The attacks appear to have a European dimension. We have heard from journalists and other people we were with that English citízens took part in the attacks and were killed in the hotel. This information is not confirmed, however. We were told that they came in by boat.”
