Kuala Lumpur : Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Friday conveyed his deepest sympathies on the pain and losses suffered by the people of India.

In his condolence message to Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Abdullah expressed his shock and abhorrence on the act of terrorism in Mumbai which caused deaths and injuries to hundreds of innocent people and damage to many important buildings and public utilities.

“I share your revulsion against these heinous crimes. I am confident, however that you and your government would soon be able to restore normalcy to the situation in Mumbai and bring to justice the guilty party,” he said.

So far, 125 people have been reported killed including 14 policemen and six foreigners while 250 others injured in a series of coordinated terrorist attacks in Mumbai since Wednesday evening.

Abdullah said terrorism under any form perpetrated by whosoever cannot be tolerated and must be condemned.

Hence, he said, Malaysia was ready to work closely with India to deal with the problem of terrorism for the present and for the future.

Foreign Minister Dr Rais Yatim, in his message of condolence to his counterpart Shri Pranab Mukherjee, said Malaysia remained firmly committed in engaging in a constructive manner, all regional and international efforts, in combating terrorism.

“The horrendous terrorist attacks on civilians in Mumbai serves to underscore the fundamental need for the international community to continue vigorously forging a comprehensive and effective front in combating all forms of terrorism and extremism as they constitute among the biggest challenges to mankind and the principles of the rule of law and democracy,” he said.
