Railway staff at CST station prevented massacre

By IANS,

Mumbai : There could have been a massacre at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station if the railway staff had not used the public address system to guide passengers to safety in the wake of the terrorist attack Wednesday night.

As terrorists entered the station and began firing indiscriminately, the staff at the inquiry booth began making loud announcements asking people to make a quick and safe exit from all the platforms.

“We were making routine announcements about trains when we heard gun shots and saw people running. Terrorists were firing indiscriminately. We then made announcements asking people to escape from the last gate of the platform rather than the front,” V.P. Zhende, an employee at the inquiry booth, told a news channel.

According to Zhende, the inquiry staff were regularly guiding the passengers until the terrorists turned their guns towards them.

“We ducked as they opened fire on us. Their bullets shattered the glass at the inquiry booth,” he said.

At least 183 people, including 22 foreigners, were killed in the terror drama in Mumbai that began Wednesday night and ended Saturday afternoon.
