Public woe of sacked Indian-origin minister

By IANS,

London : Parmjit Dhanda, an Indian-origin Labour MP who lost his ministerial post in the recent cabinet reshuffle, has expressed his disappointment on his personal blog.

The MP from Gloucester was a minister for communities and local government. He blogged: “I received the call that no minister wants to receive. I was told by the Prime Minster that he wanted to move me on to a non-ministerial post.”

He said it “was a disappointment, but ministerial jobs come and go”.

Dhanda lamented the lack of ministers with “Indian roots” in the Gordon Brown cabinet. “One thing I do hope this reshuffle takes into account is the fact that for too long I’ve been the only MP with Indian roots to be serving as a minister. I do hope this will be rectified in the near future.”

The prime minister offered him a role on a select committee which he declined, Dhanda wrote. “I am now looking forward to having more time for bread and butter causes in Gloucester,” said his blog, parmjit.wordpress.com.
