Senior Taliban commander captured in Afghanistan

By Xinhua,

Kabul : The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has captured a senior Taliban commander in southern Afghan province of Uruzgan, an ISAF statement said Sunday.

“Without firing a shot, ISAF soldiers captured Mullah Sakhi Dad and another insurgent while searching a compound in Tarin Kot district of Uruzgan in the early morning of Oct 1,” the statement said.

Dad, according to the statement, had links with the Taliban’s second in command Mullah Berader Akhund.

Taliban insurgents who have staged a comeback three years ago and intensified their activities targeting interests of the Afghan government and international troops, have yet to comment on the ISAF statement.

Conflicts and spiralling insurgency have claimed the lives of over 4,000 people, mostly militants, till date this year.
