Lucknow : A major accident was averted in Kanpur district Sunday when the driver realised that the train had been inadvertently signalled to take a wrong route, officials said.
The error took place at the Kanpur railway station early morning when the Muzaffarpur-bound Puja Special Express from New Delhi was routed to Allahabad, where it was not supposed to go.
“The train goes to Bihar via Lucknow but it was signalled east to chug towards Allahabad. However, the driver noticed the error near the Sarsaul station, 25 km from here, when the passengers started creating a ruckus,” station superintendent of Kanpur station Mevalal told IANS on phone.
He said the train was instantly called back to Kanpur amid heavy protest by the passengers.
“An inquiry has been ordered and action will be taken against those found guilty,” Mevalal assured.
The train left for Lucknow, to reach its final destination delayed by three hours, after the railway staff assured the passengers that the delay in reaching Muzaffarpur will be covered effectively.
