Turkish warplanes hit PKK targets again

By NNN-KUNA,

Istanbul : Turkish warplanes scrambled into action anew on Tuesday raiding bases and hideouts of separatist Kurds entrenched in mountainous regions on the Iraqi-Turkish borders.

The military reported in a statement that the air strikes targeted 21 positions of the Kuridsh Workers Party (PKK) in the region of Avasin and the mountainous regions of Aki Yaka and Buzul.

The Turkish air forces have been attacking PKK targets since Friday, when the Kurdish gunmen attacked a Turkish military outpost killing 17 soldiers.

Ankara blames the separatist group for the death of more than 35,000 people since the early 1980s when the PKK began its fight for independence in south-east Turkey.
