Warne willing to make Test comeback

By IANS,

Sydney : The Australian team reeling under the paucity of decent spinners ahead of the first Test against India can have an answer in spin wizard Shane Warne who says he is just a phone call away from joining the force in India.

Warne who, after captaining Royal Rajasthan to Indian Premier League (IPL) win, had hinted of a comeback if Australian team sends an SOS, Wednesday once gain reiterated that he is fit enough to play in Tests.

“If the call comes I will consider it,” Warne said when asked how he would respond if there were a cry for help from captain Ricky Ponting.

“I’m fit enough. I’m probably fitter than I have ever been at the moment.”

While insisting that he was happily retired, Australia’s greatest spin bowler was quoted as saying in The Australian that he had been “landing them pretty well” on the very few occasions that he had bowled recently.

Australia with its inexperienced spin attack faces a tough challenge on slow Indian tracks and Warne said his own difficult time had taught him that it took experience to eventually succeed there.

“I found it tough. I found it difficult and I would like to think that I was one of the better spinners going around,” he said.

While India’s batsmen were clearly masters of spin bowling on their own pitches, Warne could not conceal his view that he might do well against them this time around.

“With India’s Fab Four – Sachin Tendulkar, V.V.S. Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly – coming to the end of their careers, they would be losing confidence and less likely to try and dominate a top quality spinner,” Warne said.
