Jharkhand postal department launches e-money order service

Ranchi : Jharkhand’s postal department launched e-money order services here Saturday, a day after the ‘national postal week’ started.

The e-money order services will be extended to 133 post offices in the state in one week, said Jharkhand Postal Department Director Anil Kumar.

“Now, money order will reach its recipients within an hour. No additional charges will be taken from the customer,” he added.

Under the new system, as soon as a customer books a money order, the money will be transferred to the post office nearest to the recipient. Then the postman will deliver the money.

The state postal department has diversified its operations over the past few years. Now, postmen distribute condoms and medicines as well. The department is also involved in services like railway ticket booking and helping customers get PAN cards.

The national postal week, started Friday, will continue till Oct 15.
