Anonymous threat calls at Mamata’s residence

By IANS,

Kolkata : Two anonymous telephone calls threatening to kill Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee were received at her residence Monday, police said.

Police Commissioner Gautam Chakraborty said the calls were made in the afternoon on the landline of Banerjee’s residence at Kalighat in the southern part of the city.

The Trinamool chief was in New Delhi heading a delegation to apprise President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of the developments in Singur.

“Two anonymous calls were made. We are looking into the matter with all seriousness,” Chakraborty said.

“The caller issued threats to kill her,” he said.

A complaint has been lodged in the Kailghat police station, said Trinamool heavyweight and Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal assembly Partha Chatterjee.

However, Chatterjee said people in the state had little faith in the city police. “We know they won’t do anything. And there will be no progress.”
