New Delhi : The country’s civil aviation regulator has suspended the licence of the maintenance engineer of the GoAir flight, which made an emergency landing at Delhi airport Oct 9 with one of its wheels missing, a top government official said Monday.
The engineer, a woman, was suspended a day after the incident
Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Kanu Gohain told IANS that the engineer was at fault and that her licence has been suspended.
GoAir had suspended the engineer, whose identity has not been disclosed, a day after the incident on the recommendation of the DGCA. The regulator is now working out the period for which her licence will remain suspended.
The engineer is accused of negligence in ensuring aircraft safety and risking the lives of passengers and crew members.
Initial investigations show the aircraft had undergone maintenance work before the take-off, and that a nose wheel had to be removed while fixing a snag in the wing. But the nose wheel had not been re-fixed.
The Airbus A-320 aircraft was inducted in the GoAir fleet in November 2007.
