Dasmunsi stable, but cannot speak

By IANS,

New Delhi : Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi’s condition was stable Thursday but doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said he was yet to speak a single word and may not be out of hospital for at least 10 more days.

“His vital parameters are now stable but he is still under close observation. He is off ventilator but he is unable to speak a single word,” AIIMS medical superintendent D.K. Sharma told IANS.

Asked if the minister will be discharged within a week, Sharma said: “I cannot assure that. May be 10 days, may be more,” he said adding that Dasmunsi was still in the cardiac care unit (CCU).

Dasmunsi, 63, was rushed to the AIIMS past Monday midnight after he complained of breathlessness due to lung congestion caused by a heart attack. He was put on a ventilator but was taken off it Wednesday.

This was his second heart attack in three months. He had suffered a heart attack July 8 and had undergone an angioplasty and stenting of two coronary arteries.

A team of doctors led by cardiology department head V.K. Behl was closely monitoring Dasmunsi’s health condition. Sharma said his blood pressure, heart rate, renal function and blood sugar are under control.

President Pratibha Patil, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss are among a host of dignitaries who have visited the senior Congress leader, who has a 10-year history of diabetes.
