Decks cleared for international cricket stadium in Jharkhand

By IANS,

Ranchi : Decks have been cleared for an international cricket stadium in Ranchi as the Jharkhand High Court has disposed of the case related to a land dispute between the state government and two other parties.

In July a single bench of the high court had allowed Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) to lease land to Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) for setting up the stadium.

In August JSCA and HEC signed an agreement to transfer 37 acres of land on lease to construct the stadium in Ranchi.

The agreement was signed after clearance from the Jharkhand High Court. The JSCA also paid Rs.15 million to HEC against the lease of the land.

The state government filed a petition in the high court in the second week of August pointing out that the HEC cannot transfer land to JSCA.

The state government pleaded that the revival package mooted for the HEC also included land. Only the state government could transfer the land.

The case was disposed of after A.K. Basu, the chief secretary of Jharkhand, filed an affidavit saying that state government had no problem with the transfer of the plot if it was not part of revival package.

Jharkhand government had agreed to pay Rs.2.5 billion to HEC as revival package. In lieu of money HEC was supposed to transfer 2,342 acre of land to the state government.

A division bench comprising Justice M.Y. Iqbal and Justice D.K. Sinha disposed of the petition allowing transfer of land to JSCA by HEC. HEC also assured that the plot would not be part of revival package.
