Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati Saturday raised the income level for determining the creamy layer among other backward castes (OBCs) to Rs.500,000.
“We have raised the creamy layer from the existing limit of Rs.3 lakh (Rs.300,000) annual income to Rs.5 lakh (Rs.500,000),” Mayawati told reporters here.
“Even the limit of Rs.4.5 lakhs (Rs.450,000) fixed by the central government was impractical, therefore we decided to take it beyond that,” she added.
Justifying the move, she saud: “This will entitle more people from among the OBCs to receive the benefits of reservation.”
