Islamabad : At least 12 militants were killed and 14 injured when Pakistani troops backed by helicopter gunships targeted militant bases in several parts of restive Bajaur tribal region bordering Afghanistan on Saturday.
Officials said several Taliban hideouts were destroyed during the air-strikes and claimed to have arrested 168 suspected foreign militants, mostly of Uzbek and Afghan origin, in different areas of the North West Frontier Province and the tribal areas over the past few days.
Around 130 suspected foreign militants were arrested in the Kohat region on Friday while 38 were arrested in the Darra Adam Khel region on Thursday. They had no documentation and were being interrogated.
Over 1,000 militants have been killed in the troubled Bajaur region since the army launched an anti-militancy operation in late August.
