Emirates Airlines to offer more jobs to Indians

By IANS,

New Delhi : While Indian carriers have cut their domestic and international operations besides salary and job cuts to meet losses, international carrier Emirates Airlines Monday announced it was recruiting more people from India to meet their expansion requirement here.

“In fact we are looking for more people from India. We will recruit more people as cabin crew and other operations,” Emirates Airline vice president (India and Nepal) Orhan Abbas told reporters here.

Emirates, he said, would add 31 additional flights every week to India by February; it currently operates 132 flights a week.

“The enhanced capacity will position our airline as a single largest international carrier in the Indian skies,” Abbas said.

The carrier has over 10,000 cabin crew in its global operations, out of which about 10 percent are Indians. Abbas said Indians were educated, hardworking and intelligent. “We are looking forward to take more Indians in our expansion plans,” he said.

Last week, Jet Airways announced the retrenchment of about 1,900 employees after its strategic alliance with another private carrier, Kingfisher Airlines. It, however, took back the employees following widespread protests.

Airlines in the country are also expected to cut salaries, saying operational losses were mounting.
