Ganguly still has cricket left in him: Kirmani

By IANS,

Dubai : Sourav Ganguly, who recently announced his retirement from international cricket, still has a lot of cricket left in him, according to former Indian wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani.

“I have always backed Ganguly who has been performing to the best of his abilities,” Kirmani told IANS here Thursday.

“There is a lot of cricket left in him,” he added.

Ganguly scored his 16th Test hundred in the second Test against Australia in Mohali which India won by 320 runs.

“Every team, every individual goes through a bad form, bad patch. On that basis, Sri Lanka was a bad patch for the Indian team. All the top senior cricketers failed,” he said.

“Unfortunately, only Ganguly was not picked for the Rest of India team (in the Irani Trophy). That should not have happened,” he asserted.

However, to a question as to whether Ganguly was unfairly targeted, the former chief selector of India said: “It happens inadvertently. The decision is taken, right or wrong, and later you realize that you should not have left him behind.”

Kirmani is here to take part in the ‘Legends of Lords’ event celebrating the silver jubilee of India’s World Cup victory in 1983.

All members of that champion side are being felicitated at a special function here.
