Maoists torch 12 vehicles to enfore strike in Jharkhand

By IANS,

Ranchi : Maoist rebels torched 12 vehicles and killed a truck driver in separate incidents in Jharkhand while enforcing a strike against the killing of one of their key leaders, police said Thursday.

Jharkhand Liberation Tiger (JLT), also known as the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), rebels burnt nine vehicles of a private construction company in Lathear district of Jharkhand. According to police, the incident occurred near Tetai village of Latehar district, around 160 km from Ranchi.

Admitting the attack, the PLFI claimed the construction company was continuing work despite the strike.

The second incident took place near Kurpurti village of Ranchi. Maoist rebels attacked four trucks when they were passing through the village. While the driver of one truck was killed, the rebels set fire to three trucks.

The JLT Thursday called a strike to protest the killing of its top most commander Ajay Yadav last week in Hazaribagh district. The JLT said he was killed in a staged shootout. “Ajay Yadav was arrested by the police and was killed in a fake encounter,” the rebels said in posters they pasted in some parts of the state.

Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state.
