Guwahti: Five people belonging to the Muslim community were killed at the open market at Dimakushi under Udalguri district on 5th October 2008. According to eyewitnesses, some fanatic Bodo youths are involved in the crime. Most of the victims were in the age group of 45-60.
Rahimuddin Ahmed (50) was going to sell his cow at the market. The miscreants caught hold of him and brutally killed in the open market. Anowar Hussain (62) was a shopkeeper of dried fishes. By the time of the incident he was sitting at his booth selling dried fishes. The miscreants forcefully took him out of the booth and cut him into several pieces at the spot. Azizur Rahman (45) was quite an innocent fellow who was going to purchase something in the market. The miscreants took him as a target after Anowar Hussain. Azizur tried to escape the scene while running but fell on the ground unfortunately. The miscreants cut him into several pieces. While Sirajuddin Ahmed (55) was in the market premise while the killing was going on. He became an easy target. Pachen Khan had just arrived the market from home and he was slaughtered. On the other hand Bulbul Ali (60) was seriously injured at this incident. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
What is noteworthy is that these five people were not original migrated Muslims. They were local Muslims. The incident is a proof that what happened was not a violence between migrated Muslims and indigenous.
In another gruesome attack on Muslims on October 6 the rioters killed a woman and her baby in Baska district.
The miscreants killed a two year baby along with her 24-years-old mother at Kalcheni village under Nagrijuli Police Station, Baska District on October 6. The victims along with Monser Ali, an 8-years-old boy, were going to attend a marriage ceremony. The slain woman is known to be Serbanu Begum, wife of Sorbase Ali of 2 No. Dongargaon. As soon as they came near to Barnadi two people on a two wheelers arrived at the scene and snatched the baby from the mother. Then they were killed by sharp weapons. After this police and military forces arrived at the spot and four youths have been arrested till now.
According to P.K. Dutta, the SP of Baska District, NDFB, the Bodo Militant group is involved in this brutal killings. Two arrested persons B. Dahal and Jabrang Boro have reportedly admitted their involvement in this attack.
