Lucknow : In yet another incident of attack by wild animals, three people were injured when a leopard pounced upon them in Uttar Pradesh, an official said Wednesday.
“The incident took place Tuesday night in Nidhipurwa village in Bahraich when the leopard attacked the three, who were returning from their fields,” said forester Pramod Srivastava.
He said the injured are being treated in a hospital in Motipur locality in Bahraich town, some 270 km from Lucknow.
In the last three months, over 10 cases of attacks by wild animal have been reported from the Bahraich district, where the Katerniaghat forest reserve is located.
In the same district, a tiger killed railway employee in October while a leopard killed a nine-year old girl in September, forest officials said.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) R.K. Singh said the Katerniaghat forest range is part of the Dudhwa tiger reserve, which stretches from northern Uttar Pradesh to Nepal. The range is home to nearly 54 tigers and 32 leopards.
