Police probe dowry angle in Delhi housewife’s murder

By IANS,

New Delhi : Probing the murder of a 22-year-old housewife who was found dead with her throat slit in her northwest Delhi home, police Thursday questioned her husband and father-in-law.

Anju Rani’s body was found at her home in Nangloi Wednesday evening. The police said she was married to Sanjit Singh, a real estate agent who also runs a school, four years ago and they have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

Sanjit told police that he found his wife’s body in the house when he returned from his job. He called his neighbours who then informed police.

“There are external injuries marks on her throat. Our preliminary investigations indicate this might be a dowry death. We are questioning the victim’s husband and father-in-law,” said a senior police officer.

Anju’s father Satyaban Singh, who works with the external affairs ministry, has alleged in his police complaint that Sanjit and his father Baljeet were behind the murder.

“The father-son killed my daughter. They always tortured her for dowry. For the past four years my daughter could not live a peaceful life,” he said.
